Response to the Labour Party policy paper: A World for the Many

The paper was written by Shadow Secretary of State Kate Osamor MP and supported by a Task force of 12 experts and activists, including Health Poverty Action’s Head of Policy and Campaigns Natalie Sharples acting in a personal capacity. It highlights the commonalities in the struggles between people in the UK and across the world and set out 5 key areas for action: A fairer global economy; A global movement for Public Services; A feminist approach to development; Building peace and preventing conflict and; Action for climate justice and ecology.

Natalie Sharples Head of Policy and Campaigns, and member of the Taskforce said:

“This paper is a refreshing and radical break from well-worn development tropes. It makes it clear that the struggles we face in the UK – whether that’s austerity, privatisation or an economy that prioritises big businesses and elites – are the same struggles faced by people across the world. To end poverty and inequality everywhere, we need to address its causes. That means action on a range of areas from trade, to tax debt and climate change, and holding all parts of UK government responsible for their impacts on poverty in the UK and across the world. We look forward to holding Labour to account to deliver their vision.”
