Health in Action – Winter 2024
On by Ella Ronan
This edition features our Planetary Health Appeal, highlighting the interconnectedness of human and planetary health.
We explore how HPA supports communities in addressing the impacts of the climate crisis while ensuring they have access to sustainable options that ensure a healthier environment for themselves and their families.
Importantly, this newsletter delves into the innovative ways HPA and its sister organisation, Find Your Feet, tackle environmental challenges in Guatemala and Somaliland. Together, we are finding practical, sustainable solutions to the interconnected issues of health and climate change, from distributing fuel-efficient cooking stoves in Rwanda to teaching families in Guatemala to grow climate-resilient crops.
We also spotlight the International Coalition for Drug Policy and Environmental Justice, an HPA initiative advocating for climate-sensitive drug policy reforms at COP 30 in Brazil next year. The coalition’s work draws upon expertise from advocates, activists, artists and academics, and exposes how drug prohibition drives deforestation, displacement, and ecological harm—reminding us that planetary health is human health.
